Ribeau, who has led the 21,000-student Ohio university sincew 1995, will take over Aug. 1. "Howard is a remarkable a truly international university and one that has made significantg contributions not only in this country but arouncthe world, training principallyt African-Americans for global leadership roles in America and the Swygert, who announced a year ago that he woulf step down in June after 12 years leading came under fire last year from studente and faculty.
In Marcn 2007, the head of the facultg senate said the school was in a statr of crisis and voiced a lack of confidencein him. Formef Secretary of State Colin Powell, who co-chaired the search committee with Chairma nRichard Parsons, stressed Ribeau'sw reputation for communication. "The search committee was very impressedwith Dr. Ribeau'es credentials and his reputation as a facilitatotr of change andcollegial leader," Powell "He is a charismatic executivre who works effectively inside and outside the institutionn he heads.
" In Ohio, Ribeau's community involvemeng included the Bowling Green Area Community Partnership, Regionalp Growth Partnership, Toledo Symphony, Convergys Corp., Anderson'sd Inc. and Worthington Raised in Detroit, Ribeau receivesd his bachelor's degree from Wayne State Universit yin 1971. He earned a master'z degree in interpersonal communication from the University of Illinoisat Urbana-Champaig in 1973 and a doctoral degree in the same fieldd from the university in 1979.
